Here's a map some of the major internet highways that interconnect the world.

Gizmodo ran this story earlier today and had this to say.
" 99% of the internet traffic flowing between countries travels through underwater cables. And now we have a fairly comprehensive map of these pipes"
"This map data was compiled by Greg Mahlknecht using resources he found on the internet. It shows the major pipes flowing from Europe to North America and those from Asia to Australia and Africa. The map is a work in progress and Mahlknecht is asking for help to improve the detail and accuracy of this underwater map."
